Herbert Hoover Gay, age 81, of Richmond Road in Garrard County, passed away Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.  Born Tuesday, February 12, 1929 in Garrard County, he was the son of the late Sherman Henry & Ida Amons Locker Gay.  Hoover was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict Era (1951-1953), where he was an Engineer and earned the ranks of Sergeant.  Throughout his life, he worked as a farmer, where he was taught the farming techniques from the Paint Lick Technical School.   Hoover was a member of Hyattsville Baptist Church, member of the Dairymen’s Association to where he sold his milk, member of the Burley Cooperative Association, and member of the Republican Party.  He will always be remembered for his love of God and family.

Hoover leaves behind two sons, Joe Sherman Gay of Elizabethtown & Michael Hoover (Mary Beth Kliest) Gay of Lancaster; one daughter, Judy Ann Gay of Lancaster; two brothers, Eddie Gay & William McKinley (Daisy) Gay both of Lancaster; one sister, Carol Jean Gay of Lancaster; five grandchildren, Daniel E. & Leslie Jo Day, David Lee Hall, Kendra Michelle & William Drew Harmon; and one great-granddaughter, Maddie Jo Durham. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Garfield Gay; and one sister, Nona Elizabeth Gay. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, March 22, 2010 at Ramsey Funeral Home with Bro. Everett Priddy & Bro. Elby Frost officiating the service.  Burial will follow in Lancaster Cemetery with military rites performed by the Caswell Saufley Post #18 of the American Legion.  Hoover’s grandsons, Charles Mitchell, Timothy Lush, Justin O. Sebastian, Hughie Allen, and Bobby Tudor will serve as Active Pallbearers.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Caywood Metcalf, Gatewood Phillips, Glyndon Ballard, Jack Rose, Greg Whitley, Jeremy Lamb, Tommy Barnes, Henry Burton, Bobby Smallwood, John Land, and Jonathan Shell.

Visitation will be held 5-9 PM Sunday, March 21, 2010 at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass or Thomson-Hood Veterans Center Trust Fund.
